How to join the GPAS?

The selection notice for admission to the Master's and Doctoral programs in Animal Science is published in May and October. Applications are submitted online.

When do enrollments take place?

The enrollment date is announced in a specific notice and usually occurs in February and July. After the initial enrollment, the student must re-enroll online every semester, including in case of deadline extension.

Can I extend the deadline to complete the program?

Yes. The request for extension of the dissertation/thesis defense deadline must be submitted at least 45 (forty-five) days before the defense deadline using the form https://www.cav.udesc.br/?idFormulario=385. The maximum extension period for the Master's program is 06 months, and for the Doctoral program, it is 02 months.

Required documents:

I – request signed by the student and with a detailed opinion from the advisor, addressed to the Graduate Program Committee (GPC);

II - justification of the request;

III - report on the current stage of the dissertation or thesis;

IV - indicative schedule of activities to be developed during the extension period.

Do I need to take an English language proficiency test?

Undoubtedly! To obtain master's and doctoral degrees, students must demonstrate proficiency in English no later than half of the course's regulatory deadline (12 months for the Master's and 24 months for the Doctorate). A graduate student will be considered proficient in English if they pass a proficiency exam offered by master's and doctoral courses of graduate programs at CAV/UDESC, or if they have validated one of the tests allowed by the PPGCA's internal regulations.

And my research project, what is the deadline and where do I submit it?

By the second re-enrollment, the master's student must submit the dissertation project, and by the third re-enrollment, the doctoral student must submit the thesis project. It must be submitted by the student's advisor using the appropriate form via SGPe.

Is it necessary to pass the Qualification exam?

Only Doctoral students. The Qualification must be carried out within 30 months of entering the course, and scheduled with a minimum of 45 days in advance.

Required documents (must be submitted by the advisor via SGPe):

- Qualification exam request form;

The committee will be composed of the student's advisor or co-advisor, an external member to UDESC, an internal member, and alternates, with the participation of relatives up to the 4th degree of the student, the advisor, and other members of the Qualification exam committee being prohibited.

How do I schedule my Dissertation/Thesis defense?

The examining committee must be scheduled at least 30 days in advance, and the PPGCA self-assessment form, available HERE, must be completed. Filling out this form is very important for PPGCA, as in addition to being a requirement of CAPES, it will help us implement improvements in the Program. Responses are anonymous.

Required documents (must be submitted by the advisor via SGPe):

• Examining committee request form;
• Academic transcript + statement that the student is eligible for defense (issued by the Graduate Studies Secretariat);
• Dissertation/Thesis in PDF format.

Master's Degree: The examining committee will consist of the student's advisor or co-advisor, an external member from UDESC, an internal member, and alternates. Participation of relatives up to the 4th degree of the student, advisor, and other members of the committee is prohibited.

Doctorate: The examining committee will consist of the student's advisor or co-advisor, two external members from UDESC, two internal members, and alternates. Participation of relatives up to the 4th degree of the student, advisor, and other members of the committee is prohibited.

What documents are required to obtain the Diploma?

Submit within 60 days after defense:

• Defense minutes;
• Digital copy of the dissertation/thesis (PDF format), in the final version with the corrections suggested by the examining committee, written in accordance with the standards of the UDESC Academic Works Manual. If there is a change in the title, it must be stated in the defense minutes;
• Library clearance certificate, issued in the Pergamum system (PDF format);
• Statement from the advisor attesting that the corrections suggested by the examining committee were accepted and included in the final version of the dissertation/thesis (PDF format);
• Library Authorization Term, completed and signed by the student and advisor (PDF format). If authorizing partial publication of the dissertation/thesis, in addition to the complete dissertation/thesis, send a file containing only the parts authorized for publication;

Submit within 01 year after defense:

• Document proving the submission of a scientific article related to the dissertation theme in the case of a Master's degree, and two scientific articles related to the Thesis theme in the case of a Doctorate, for publication in a scientific journal listed in the "Web of Science" (PDF format);
• Statement from the advisor attesting to knowledge and agreement with the submission of the article(s) (PDF format);
• Copy of the article(s) (PDF format);
• Application for diploma issuance (PDF format).
