SANTA CATARINA STATE UNIVERSITY – UDESC
TECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES INSTITUTION - CCT.
Civil Engineering Graduate Program - CEGP
Master´s Program in Civil Engineering
Objective
The primary objective of the Master´s Program in Civil Engineering is to complement the formation of professionals (engineers, architects, urbanists, among others), capacitating them with theoretical and practical knowledge that effectively contribute for the sustainable development of Brazilian cities, especially regarding aspects connected to the constructed environment, urban planning, and infrastructure maintenance and managing.
Mission statement
the CEGP’s mission is to train researchers who contribute to scientific and technological development in the field of Urban Engineering and Civil Construction in favor of society and sustainable development.
Vision statement
Be a reference Graduate Program in the field of research in Urban Engineering and Civil Construction in Brazil and with international visibility.
Minimum formation and other requirements for ingress
The selection process is aimed at those students graduated in engineering or architecture and urbanism (courses recognized by the Ministry of Education of Brazil). Students graduated in other areas may be considered, as long as they are approved by the CEGP commission.
Places
The number of places offered by the DEGP will vary according to the availability of the Program's professors and will be defined by the DEGP’s council.
Master’s program structure
Students enrolled in the master’s program will be expected to complete at least 24 credits before starting the dissertation project. In addition, the student must present proof of proficiency in English. At the end of the course, after having their dissertation presented orally and approved by a defense committee, the student receives the title of Master in Civil Engineering. This title is conferred by the Santa Catarina State University - UDESC, with the rights and attributions that are applicable to it.
Concentration Area
Research lines
- Sustainable Development in Civil Construction
The mains focus is to expand knowledge about the built environment with an emphasis on emerging problems and current, innovative and unconventional solutions.
It aims to reflect and investigate the performance of buildings regarding the use of resources, application solutions, materials and unconventional construction methods in civil construction aimed at the sustainability of the built environment.
This research line is linked to the civil construction area, with a focus on the performance of innovative solutions linked to the sector and efficiency in the use of resources in the built environment. The objectives of the research lines are: the analysis of construction processes and techniques, the application of unconventional materials in civil construction, the conservation of material, energy and water resources, the analysis of the energy efficiency of buildings and comfort in the built environment, in addition to promoting solutions in civil construction linked to the concept of sustainable development.
- Urban Infrastructure
The research line in Urban Infrastructure focuses on building knowledge about urban infrastructure networks as a basic element to support the development of city functions, assuming that planning the network is planning the city.
Urban traces, growth trends and urban expansion and other elements will be considered in this research line, as they are essential to studies of dimensioning the infrastructure network.
Within the scope of this master's degree, the infrastructure network will comprise the sidewalks and vehicular routes and their function of housing the road system, water supply systems, drainage, and sewer system, which will be objects of study.
The main goals of this research line are the reflection and study regarding the designing and planning of the urban infrastructure network, emphasizing the search for sustainable materials and technologies, compatible with the environmental support of the physical environment.
This line, therefore, provides the possibility of reviewing traditional alternatives; the planning and compatibility of network projects, focusing on principles such as greater coverage of service to the population, optimization of efforts and invested resources.
- Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation
This research line intends to develop areas that focus on environmental sustainability, which directly relates to the sustainability of the urban environment, including: hydrological studies; planning and management of water resources; studies of hydrodynamic phenomena and heat transfer; studies involving the treatment of supply and waste water; studies on the management and final disposal of urban and industrial solid waste; and studies that focus on water supply and sewage systems.
