Founded in 2009 at Santa Catarina State University (UDESC) in Brazil, the Grassland Research Lab (NUPEP) is a scientific research group focused on understanding and developing sustainable grazing systems.
Our approach is firmly rooted in scientific methods, with hypothesis-driven research that helps us push the boundaries of our knowledge about grassland ecology and management. For over a decade, we've been making significant contributions to understanding how pastures work and how to manage them better.
RESEARCH FOCUS
We concentrate our work in three main areas:
1. Multi-species Grassland Management: We study how different grass species interact when growing together in pastures, looking for ways to improve both production and sustainability.
2. Grassland Ecology and Management for Biodiversity: We develop strategies that balance livestock production with nature conservation, recognizing that pastures can play a crucial role in preserving our environment.
3. Plant Tolerance and Resistance to Grazing: We investigate how grazing affects plants and how plants adapt to being grazed, helping us develop better management practices.
